Urban Folk Pop Art
A term I have coined to describe my attempt to use the form of wall-hanging, painted surfaces ("Art") as a lasting, "nondisposable" medium that, never-the-less, communicates in common "throw-away" vernacular ("Pop") about my own introspective, personal, common sense narrative ("Folk").
My cartoon-like paintings can, by giving real life experience the veneer of a true Popular Language, intellectually challenge viewers in a way that still delivers an emotional charge. It communicates on different levels: the apparent caricature style, and the deeper metaphorical underpinnings. It can be fun and still seriously communicate about living an honorable life.
